Hydro,
It seems logic to work on the hydrogen atom, because there are twice a much of them in the gasmix.
The gain is much higher, because hydrogen has only 1 electron. If it looses that electron, it will not be able to hook up to the oxygen atom.
However....this is all theory and not proven.
I also wanna look at the oxygen BOHR model soon.
The frequencys are accoording to the BOHR model of hydrogen:
656.46 nm = red
486.27 nm = blue
434.17 nm = blue-violet
410.29 nm = violet
I have these LEDS already in my lab. I am looking for a way how to make a proper setup.

ps. found these:

More info on the Balmer lines
http://www.ceoptics.com/ccd/ccd_tech_report.html
The most predominate frequency for nebulae is centered at the HII line in chart 2.This is the H-alpha line at
656.32 nm
and is the result of spontaneous photon emission from the ionized hydrogen gas present in the nebula as electrons decay from the 3rd to 2nd energy level.
Also: ionized oxygen at 500.7 and 495.9 nm
More good info on the oxygen Balmer lines:

I'm going for the Oxygen , So a 500 nm laser Stevie ?
What is that 656 wavelenght , some centered frequency that all the atoms react too ?
I wanna make this simple as possible , will only use 1 laser .

Dankie,
It am still looking and reading.
Maybe you can help with googling?
I use words like oxygen, balmer lines, ionization.
Somehow the universe provides the answers..:-)

Dankie,
For oxygen i find always 3 frequencys:
ca 500nm
OI oxygen line at 645,6 nm
ca 777nm

More info on IONS.
There are 2 types of IONS (ion = atom that lost electrons)
1. anion (negative charged ion) like the negative charge oxygen ion O2- or the negative hydrogen ion H-
2.kation (positive charged ion) like the hydrogen proton = H+ or like oxygen O2+

Well, i am talking to myself here.
How do we get those electrons out of the gasmix?
Should we push the ionized gas thru 2 electrodes and hook those up to a lightbulb orso?
