Hi Blade,
I ran soo many experiences....I never forget for the rest of my life how a cell behaves..
The cell will become very low in resistance as soon as current flows.
Thats why Stan in his early work added a resistive element on the negative side of his tube. Somekind of sandwich.
Later he added a coil who got activated on the right time to act as a resistor.
Thats why this could work! In my early work i found out that the mosfet for the converter could not deal with an active cell.. Just at the start it would work nicely.
As soon as i am home, i will make some experiences.

A buck Boost type of converter.
It is Ampere limiting.
It is step charging the watercell.
It shoots Back emf or reversed coil discharging charge into the waterfuelcell.
Discharging a coil strait into a waterfuelcell doesnt work as t is to short for the waterfuelcell to react.
By adding a resistance we have a longer t and the discharge can charge up the cell

So the choke coil(s) gets a charge, the waterfuelcell gets a charge.
What to do with that?
Hmmmmmmmmm.

The cell has a negative discharge peak when you cut off the charge.
Coils have a negative discharge too, so when the buck boost coil is getting charged by the transistor or transformer secondairy, the otherside is also helping charging tue buck boost coil.
In parallel charging up the buck boost coil....
Is that not efficient?

The other option is:
Transformer isolated converter by the forward converter concept.



That way you can create the low voltage high voltage switching and double frequency at the cell.
