Why do you need those specific materials?

316 and 409 is magnetic. Or at least when I try to stick a magnet to them they stick unlike 304.

If its 316 or 304, a magnet shouldnt stick to the metal, as far as i know about SS. I tried it with 304 and doesnt stick.

My metalshop called me and they have a semi used plate of 430 SS...
Now they will roll 2 tubes for me so i can do my tests.
its a giant plate, btw. 3 mtr by 1 mtr.........well, i will have lots of 430 left.
Cost me 70 dollars......ai...again a hole in my budget.

Hi steve bubz is right, 316 is called false stainless steel because it has more iron or something that is quite magnetic.

Those who have the ss wire should try to make a generator (alternator modified maybe) with that wire to see what happen.

Steve, you are correct and I was wrong. I just checked both a tube of 316 and 304 and both are not magnetic. A magnet will not stick to either one. I apologize for making the statement before checking. I do remember having a tube set that a magnet would stick to but I can't find it at the moment. I believe it was 409 that I had bought from a local muffler shop.
