Electrolysis using tungsten rods and KOH
(1/1)
electrojolt:
I just tested performing electrolysis using 2 tungsten rods and koh mix.
reaction starts at about 1.2 volts
only the negative rod shows gas,
nothing at all on the positive rod, even when I raise the voltage to 8 volts.
why no gas (oxygen) on the positive rod?

Probably a chemical reaction which will form a coating , just like with the aluminium tube we tried last year?

electrojolt:
I'm glad you mentioned that.. maybe this water i'm using was some leftover from last year's tests and is contaminated with ALU.
will test again with a clean mix.
electrojolt:
yes there was some aluminum dissolved in the solution. that is why only hydrogen was being generated.
