here is a pic of the electrodes, I'm not happy with them. They are held in place by plastic. I would like to replace them with either glas or ceramic for hv insulation. I chose to go with a threaded rod for the positive electrode because of the sharp edges and large size. I want to make ions but still be able to extract electrons efficiently. we will see

Ok, so I haven't posted on this lately. I have some small details I need to iron out before testing. Right now my biggest concern is how the electrodes are held in place. As of now plastic disks I machined are holding them apart. I'm not happy with that because any high potential will pull electrons from the plastic. so I want to replace them with either ceramic or glass.

The other thing I want to tell you about is the electron extraction. I got my idea from some water spark plug designs. Basically using two power sources. One of high impedance and one of low dc resistance isolated by diodes. If anyone knows a good free circuit draw up program I would be happy to share the details.

Another thing I have been thinking about is removing the outer ground tube and replacing it with tin foil rapped around the outside of the quartz tube. This way I won't have a chance of an arc but of course that comes at a cost of potential. I will test with both ways.


I have designed my set up so that the gasses from the gas fun will be burned right after they pass through the gas gun. Hopefully flash backs will be prevented by the amount of air moving through the system. I will be forcing it through with a compressor for a few tests after I have dons the tests already explained.
