What I find very interesting is how stan build his cavity's.
Looks like he used specific dimensions for them to operate on resonance between dipoles. See picture Don posted of res.cav.
It has special effect when AC is used on it. A cavity acts as a capacitor like a inductor and resistor on particular frequencies. Just like a LCR circuit if dimensions and frequencies are matched.
