I don't understand what you mean by induction having zero fields?

what told you that it was working?

without this information i cannot even understand what you did... or is trying to do...

what don't you understand ...the self cancelling coil is the primary the fields "cancel" each other out the currents run antiparallel but because the total field is non-uniform there's an emf induced in the bifilar coil... magnetic field can not be seen as a unity but every charge interacting with other charge.. the zero coil doesn't work as a pickup coil.. try it it takes 2 minutes to wind it...
