Some help with the PLL
« on: December 06, 2011, 01:35:30 am »
I could use some help with the PLL circuit.
Pin 3 (COMP_IN) of the 4046 looks like it goes to a .35 cap then to the emitter of the 2N2222.
See actached jpg.

Looks like pin 3 of the 4046 is simply connected to the 0.35nf cap and then to ground. Where did you get the schematic?

On the VIC card, pin 3 would be connected or through divide by n 4017 chips to pin 4 (VCOout) of the 4046.

That is part of the beast of a schematic I have been working on for a long time deciphering the PLL resonant driver of Stan’s.
Now that the high res photo’s have been released (many thank you’s to Dan) I have made better progress. Evidently the divided by’s were not used, along with several other mods. In the past I have rushed out the gerber files to get boards to work with, only to end up cutting traces and adding jumpers. Trying not to repeat that as much.

BTW:
The 100K pot is marked Gating.
It is now corrected to "Range".

The WFC VIC in general discussions has a great deal of info...It's spread out over 80 pages but Don and TonyW both contribute a great deal there as far as the circuit goes....

Page 61 shows a schematic of the 4046 and VIC connections by TonyW. Pin 3 of the 4046 actually connects to a 22K resistor and the neg side of the primary coil.

Thanks HMS-776

I somehow missed all that.
Must stop working on this so late at night.
