I'll draw up a schematic some time soon. But all in all in't just a very basic plasma spark circuit.

One thing that I would like to change is to replace the flipflop relay with a solid state solution. Although experience will learn how long such a 30A relay will hold is't just a matter of time before it fails. If people here could help me find an alternative to this relay please let me know what parts to look for. Are there any solid state relays I could use?

D5D10 from crydom can help out.......
Its a solid state relais.
But they are expensive.....

Maybe when you draw your circuit, we can assist with Fets or similar.

Here is a solid state relay that I've used; it's rated for 50AMPs @24-280VAC.  It's made by NTE Electronics, part #RS3-1D40-21.

Hope this helps,

Here's a schematic I drew, hope it's clear.

The relay is operated by the contactpoints, with the points closed the cap is charged and when the points open the cap is discharged to the ignition coil.
